How To Tackle The Longer Distances
ASICS FrontRunner and 39 consecutive Comrades Marathon finisher Wietse van der Westhuizen shares his tips on tackling longer distances to get you running 100km in March.
What shoes do I wear?
I’ve been running in ASICS GEL-Nimbus for the past three years. ASICS did something right with the GEL-Nimbus 19. It’s as if they have invented a totally new shoe.
With the FlyteFoam midsole it is light and comfortable with enough cushioning but at the same it’s time very stable.
With legs and knees that have done thousands of kms over the past 40+ years, it is very important for me to have shoes that protect me against too much impact and I can say with an open mind that with this shoe, 50 Comrades Marathons seems more and more possible for me.
Because I used to be a racewalker, I work very hard with the front part of my shoe and the big toe area used to wear down quite rapidly. I have run almost a thousand km’s since December with the Nimbus 19 and although it is almost time to replace it now, I still did a marathon this past weekend without any discomfort.
GEL-Nimbus 19 is the ultimate long distance running shoe for 2017!
